01.10.10 Mind the Snow

By Thoughtshaker Folks

Mail Cabin 1

Careful out there. Last week, a beloved Jackson Hole ski patroller, Big Wally, was caught in an inbounds avalanche and later died of his injuries. On Saturday, the photographed avalanche above could be seen up Mail Cabin Creek from Teton Pass road, so we decided to check it out. This slide was triggered on the northeast aspect of the slope with a crown of around 3ft. As you can see, it ripped right to the ground—there was no evidence that this was human triggered... Other local souces have reported normally stable slopes showing significant danger as well.

Wear your pieps, choose your lines wisely and mind the snow.
