We've covered a lot of movement in the media world over the last year, although nothing quite compares to the recent shakeup within winter sport media. For some reason, ski & winter sport media seems to have been hit especially hard during the recent recession and digital media migration.
Particularly interesting has been the recent speculation that Skiing Magazine might be headed toward an all-digital format (dropping the print version) and that Vail Resorts is getting into their own media business. Although Vail already publishes PEAKS Magazine, the company announced last week that they had acquired Mountain News Corp., which operates the largest snowsports website in the business—onethesnow.com.
Establishments rise and fall, although it does seem that this particular niche has seen some of the most action—new titles appearing & old ones folding—over the last year. Below is a quick (and not nearly all-inclusive) look at some of the bigger changes in this industry over the last 10 months...
