06.17.10 Hi-Tec Mockumentary Goes Mainstream

By Chris D.

Every week adage.com puts out a chart measuring the top 10 hottest online viral [ad] videos of the past week. This week particularly caught my eye as outdoor footwear manufacturer Hi-Tec led the rave.

Originally posted to YouTube is late April, the spot actually got picked up by Washington DC's NBC affiliate in May as legit news. Just another example at how difficult journalists' jobs are in our nation's capital deciphering farcical news from reality...

Description of "Liquid Mountaineering" that duped NBC:

Liquid Mountaineering is a new sport which is attempting to achieve what man has tried to do for centuries: walk on water. Or to be more precise: running on water. We are developing the sport from scratch. By accident we found out that with the right water repellent equipment you can run across bodies of water, just like a stone skimming the surface.

Liquid mountaineering is performed by professionals under professional supervision. Accordingly I must insist that attempting to do so is dangerous.

We like to thank the people at Hi-Tec for their support.
