As a devotee of Tufte among others, I love visual presentation of data. It has always seemed to me that true brilliance is not so much measured by one's ability to understand complex concepts, but the ability to effectively communicate them as well.
As you'll notice on my blogroll, the very first site mentioned is one which I have drawn design and creative inspiration from for years—an experimental project called 10x10. Self described: 10x10™('ten by ten') is an interactive exploration of the words and pictures that define the time. It is a visual snapshot of what is happening in the world in any given time—a visual aggregator of top news stories from around the world, summarizing the most commonly used words and images to present a one-of-a-kind window into our world right now. Take a moment and check it out.
Another cool representation of donations on Wikipedia broken down by communication campaigns. Impressive how a little communication strategy can completely change the face of a campaign (taking note PR peeps??).
