Over the last year, I've had the privilege of working with a very talented photographer / filmmaker from British Columbia named Jordan Manley. A few years ago Jordan participated in a competition called the "Deep Winter Photo Challenge," in which 5-6 photographers (with an athlete or group of athletes) go out and shoot on the same 3 days, then edit a slideshow for an audience of 1200 people.
The essence of the competition is that everyone gets the same light, weather conditions and access to the same terrain (this competition was shot at Whistler Blackcomb). It's then up to the photographer to bring it alive. Much respect to Jordan for winning the competition with this slide show in 2009.
