Who likes their weekends free? Apparently outdoor industry folks, for one.

Outdoor Retailer announce today that they plan to move 2013 winter market up by one day (starting on Tuesday rather than Wednesday) so that retailers can suddle back to the shop to catch the weekend rush. I for one, call bullsh*t — who's seriously chomping at the bit to work a tradeshow for 5 days and then rush back to the shop to work the weekend as well? Nope, this one is all about recreation and extending dollars spent in SLC; if work doesn't start until Monday, why not spend the weekend skiing in Utah? Regardless of their reasoning, I dig the move and I'm sure I'll be sticking around an extra day if snow's a'falling.

Posted: 5/7/2012 Outdoor Retailer Winter Market will shift to a Tuesday to Saturday format beginning in January, 2013 so retailers attending the show will no longer have to be out of their stores an entire weekend.

Instead of starting with the All Mountain Demo at Solitude Mountain Resort on Wednesday and continuing indoors at the Salt Palace Convention Center Thursday through Sunday, attendees will hit the slopes on Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2013, and continue with the indoor portion, Wednesday, Jan. 23, through Saturday, Jan. 26. "Any event during the season that takes retailers out of their stores is always a balancing act between having the opportunity to see new products and make buying decisions weighed against being in the store making sales," said Kenji Haroutunian, vice president at Nielsen Expositions and OR show director. "By shifting to a Tuesday-Saturday format, retailers will be able to get back to their shops for part of the weekend, while still keeping the current duration that such a large show demands."

Lodging already secured for Winter Market through Travel Planners, Outdoor Retailer's official 2013 housing partner, will be automatically updated to reflect the new show dates. Communications and confirmations about those changes will be forthcoming.

Outdoor Retailer Summer Market 2012 runs Thursday, Aug. 2 through Sunday, Aug. 5 in Salt Lake, preceded by the Open Air Demo on Wednesday, Aug. 1 at Jordanelle State Park.
